What to Expect at a Gravel Roll Event?
Are you a veteran of the Gravel Roll, or is this your first time riding a gravel cycling race?
What should people expect at a Gravel Roll event? What questions might you have? We have a great robust FAQ with a lot details. If it's your first race, we're happy your first race is with us!
Many of our veterans already know this, but we are trying to create a more social experience in addition to the fun camaraderie of racing. We do this by sighting "segments" of the course where there is racing, and not racing. These racing segments might be 3 miles, or they might be 12 miles long. This way you can stop at aid stations without being penalized, you can ride with friends or partners without being penalized, and also, you can ride with your group and reconnect after those racing bits.
At the end of the day the vibe is about fun, it's mellow and it's competitive as you make it. You can rip the course, or you can rips ones around the course, the choice is yours.
If you enjoy the solitude of gravel cycling, well, you can still accomplish that too!
You can ride a mountain bike, a cyclo-cross bike, a hybrid bike, a road bike and of course a gravel bike. Riding a road bike may choose to be exceptionally difficult, but we subscribe to the "any bike, any where" theory and we've definitely underbiked plenty of roads and hated every minute until we became heroes in our minds about it.
We definitely encourage you to stop at the aid stations and store stops we route by on course. The Gravel Moms and Gravel Dads are there to make sure you're well fed and watered and we have a great medical team that floats around the course in case anyone finds themselves in trouble.
If you are new, tell us how else we can help you get started in your first cycling event, if you're a veteran, what can we do to challenge you even more?
